2025-2026 STEAM Fair Information

Kindergarten through 3rd grade projects are due in October and 4th - 6th grade projects are due in January.
The kindergarten - 3rd grade students will present their projects in-person to 6th grade students.
​The 4th - 6th grade students will present their projects in-person to community members. 
Types of Projects:
​
  • Science projects use the scientific process to answer a question.
  • Engineering projects use the engineering design process to build a prototype to solve a problem.
  • Art projects are inspired by and explain a science or engineering phenomenon.
  • Invention Convention (4th & 5th grade only) combines engineering and entrepreneurship.
STEAM Fair Dates
  • Kindergarten - 3rd grade STEAM Fair projects are due on Tuesday, October 21 by 8:00 am.
  • Kindergarten - 3rd grade project judging will occur on Wednesday, October 22 in-person at Indian Hills between 8:00 am - 2:30 pm with 6th grade students from Indian Hills.
  • Kindergarten - 3rd grade STEAM Fair Open House is on Thursday, October 23 from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm Indian Hills. 
    • Kindergarten - 3rd grade projects receive participation ribbons.
  • Kindergarten - 3rd grade students must bring their projects home on Friday, October 25 at the end of the school day.  
  • 4th - 6th grade STEAM Fair projects are due on Tuesday, January 20 by 8:00 am.
  • 4th - 6th grade project judging will occur on Wednesday, January 21 in-person at Indian Hills between 8:00 am - 2:30 pm with community members.
  • 4th - 6th grade STEAM Fair Awards Open House is on Thursday, January 22 from 5:30 - 7:00 pm at Indian Hills.
    • 4th - 6th grade projects receive ranked place ribbons or participation ribbons based on judging score.
  • Science and engineering projects, Invention Convention projects, and art projects are not judged against each other. These three categories of projects will be judged separately using different rubrics. ​
  • 4th - 6th grade students must bring their projects home on Friday, January 23 at the end of the school day.
SLCSD Science & Engineering Fair

The top 3-12 4th grade Invention Convention projects and 5th or 6th grade placing science or engineering projects from the school fair will advance to the Salt Lake City School District Science & Engineering Fair. SLCSD Science & Engineering fair is online using Zoom on Tuesday, February 3 between 8:00 am - 2:30 pm.

University of Utah Science & Engineering Fair - Regional Fair

Top projects from SLCSD Science & Engineering Fair will advance to the in-person University of Utah Science & Engineering Fair (USEF). This is our highest level fair because we have no state level fair in Utah. USEF occurs between March 9-14.
